A sporting weekend

The fit and their fans take over the Capital this weekend. Sporting events are taking place in almost every corner of the City.

At TD Place, the U Sports Final 8 Basketball Championships bring Canada’s best university ballers to the court. Eight men’s and eight women’s teams will compete for top prize. Tickets are available by game or in packs, individually or in groups. Click on the link above for the match-ups and full details.

The western hemisphere’s top Olympic-style wrestlers are going at each other at the Shaw Centre all weekend. Competition at the Pan-Am Championship sees returning world champs trying to defend their titles. There is also an Olympic-qualifier tournament. Get tickets online or in person.

Hot off a home win against New Jersey Devils on Thursday, Ottawa Senators have begun a western road swing. They’re in San Jose for a tilt against the Sharks on Saturday evening (7pm ET). You can surely catch it in pubs across the city and on a 16-foot HD screen at The Sens House in the Byward Market.

(The OHL’s Ottawa 67’s are on a road trip this weekend. But if junior hockey if your thing, you can catch the Gatineau Olympiques – live – Friday and Saturday nights.)

Inspired to get active yourself?

Lace up and hit the Rink of Dreams for some outdoor skating at Ottawa City Hall.

And this is one of the final weekends that local ski, snowshoe, and other recreational winter trails are guaranteed to be up and running. After all, the countdown to spring is on.
