Colouring outside the lines of an average vacay

Visiting a new city can be inspiring in all kinds of unexpected ways.

Maybe it’s the architecture… or perhaps the public art … or maybe the promise of new sights and sounds around every corner…

Whatever it is, it can get the creative juices flowing.

A trip to Ottawa offers any number of outlets for your inspiration.

  • The Ottawa School of Art holds workshops, classes and courses at its three local campuses, year-round. (They also offer certificate and diploma programs for those here on longer-term stays.)
  • Prospective potters can take a turn at the wheel under the watchful eyes of experts at Hintonburg Pottery. Along with one-time/drop-in workshops, they offer planned classes and longer-term programs for kids and adults alike.
  • Fancy a bubble tea in the ‘burbs? Why not paint your next coffee mug while you’re at it?! Art Haven has locations in Kanata and Barrhaven; you don’t need a reservation for ceramic painting, but there are many other activities you can do that do require advance bookings.
  • For a chill, art-filled evening, it doesn’t get any better than Art House Café. Take in an evening event, or kick back and appreciate the works of rotating special exhibits while enjoying fun food and drink options.

In some cases the art will even come to you! Companies like Pop-Up Painters offer instructors who will bring the supplies and create a tailored class just for you or your small group.

With art options for all ages and abilities, you can make memories and memorabilia that will be cherished reminders of your visit to Ottawa – and all that it inspired in you.
